In a rather shocking turn of events, SBF has revealed to YouTuber Tiffany Fong he does not plan to plead guilty in his upcoming trial. This is a surprise to many, as the evidence against Sam appeared to be strong. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the case and what the outcome of the trial will be.
SBF will not plead guilty!
Tiffany Fong, a crypto YouTuber, and reporter covering FTX and Celsius met Sam at his parents’ house in Palo Alto, California. Prior to this meeting, she had interviewed SBF twice.
According to Tiffany, Sam is scheduled to appear in court on January 3, 2023, and he does not plan to plead guilty.
If convicted SBF could face up to 115 years in prison. The infamous founder of FTX is charged with eight federal criminal charges relating to financial crimes.
Prior to his house arrest, SBF had been detained at the Foxhill Prison in the Bahamas. Afterward, he was extradited to the United States to stand trial but was released on a $250 million cash bond.
According to the law, Sam’s plea of ‘not guilty’ means that he did not do the crimes for which he is charged, or that he had a reasonable excuse to do so. It is unclear what ‘reasonable’ excuse Sam could have for defrauding people of their life savings. It remains to be seen what defense he will put up.
Past interviews with Tiffany
Sam’s past interviews with Tiffany have mostly put him in hot situations. The interviews were used by the court to grill Sam into a confession, but Sam did not waiver. It is unclear why SBF keeps accepting interviews with her if the contents of the interview will be later used against him in a court of law.
Mr. Bankman-Fried first followed Tiffany on Twitter after she began posting internal leaks from Celsius after its crash. Following that she held several over-the-phone interviews with Sam, the result of which was news tabloids speculating a romantic connection between the two individuals.
Tiffany has, however, categorically denied that she is romantically involved with Sam Bankman-Fried.
